About Amanda

Amanda is a graduate of Millard North High School.  She credits her time on the MN Forensics team for starting her down the path of public service.  After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with degrees in Broadcasting and Political Science, Amanda became a TV reporter in Sioux City, IA and in Lincoln.

In 2006, she was elected to the Nebraska Legislature.  She served for two terms representing Northeast Lincoln and was elected Chair of the Urban Affairs Committee for 5 years.  While there, she championed career/college readiness, state funding for school breakfasts, teen suicide prevention, and ending child trafficking.  Amanda later wrote a children’s book “The Unicameral and You: Collaborating for the Common Good in Nebraska’s Capitol” to share her love for Nebraska’s unique Unicameral system with kids.

In 2015, Amanda’s career brought her home to Omaha, and she knew she wanted to live back home in Millard.  She won election for the Millard Public Schools Board of Education in 2016 and reelection in 2020.   She also serves on the Nebraska Association of School Boards Executive Board.

Amanda is the Executive Director of Nebraska Cures, an organization that advocates for medical research and public health.  She is also Co-Director of Nebraska Women in STEM, an initiative providing professional development and networking opportunities to women in STEM careers with the goal of attracting and retaining women in these careers.

Amanda and her husband Clayton have two sons, Po and Han, who attend Grace Abbott Elementary.
